What is your role as Director of Asset Management Retail, and which projects are your primary focus?

Olaf Deistler: As Director of Asset Management Retail, I strategically steer and develop our retail assets.

A major part involves analysing performance data to assess project success and craft innovative strategies.

My main focus is on the Northside Shopping Centre and our retail parks in Nutgrove and Sintra. Beyond leasing negotiations, we are working to position these locations as community hubs by striking the right balance between appealing design, sustainable usage, and attractive retail offerings.

How are retail trends shaping asset management, and what is AM ALPHA's approach?

Olaf Deistler: Retail constantly evolves, driven by shifting consumer expectations and e-commerce competition. It's no longer just about leasing space – it's about creating engaging shopping experiences. Customers expect more than just stores; they want free Wi-Fi, family-friendly amenities, pop-up shops, and seamless Click & Collect services. At AM ALPHA, we embrace this multidimensional approach, ensuring that each property is tailored to local demand.

Sustainability is another crucial focus we have. We are implementing energy-efficient solutions and designing spaces for long-term adaptability and economic viability. And we have proof of our efforts: all our retail properties are now BREEAM certified.

I value the flat hierarchies, the open communication, and the fast decision-making processes that allow us to move quickly and efficiently.

A great example is our BPlanet retail park in Lisbon; through strategic modernisation and near-full occupancy, we significantly increased its market value, leading to a highly successful sale.
